Smelltu Donald Kaasch is born in the United States and is a well respected opera singer worldwide. He has performed a few times in Iceland before. A few years ago he sang the role of Faust in the "Condemnation of Faust" by Berlioz where he shared the stage with a good friend Kristinn Sigmundsson, who sang the role of Mephisto. He has sung in many of the most prestigious Opera houses in the world s.a. La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, the Bastille Opera in Paris and Covent Garden in London, sharing the stage with conductors like Claudio Abbado, James Levine and Simon Rattle. Donald Kaasch performed recently with the London Philharmonic at the Edinborough Festival where he sang Te Deum by Berlíoz. He also performed the solo-part of Carmina Burana at the Ravinia Festival in the United States as well as the role of Siegmund in the first concert performance of the piece in China. Mr. Kaasch has been a guest of Reykholt Festival once before where he gave an outstanding performance in 2005.
