Sigurgeir Agnarsson, cellist and artistic director

Sigurgeir Agnarsson is from 2017 principal cellist of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra (ISO) having served as its assistant principal since 2003. A graduate of the Reykjavík College of Music, New England Conservatory of Music and the Robert Schumann Hochschule he played with the German Chamber Academy Neuss before joining the ISO. Mr. Agnarsson has appeared as soloist with among others the Iceland Symphony Orcehstra, Reykjavik Chamber Orchestra and the Bochumer Symphoniker and appears regluarly as a recitalist and chamber musician in Iceland and abroad. Sigurgeir Agnarsson is head of the string department at the newly founded College for Music in Reykjavík. He sits on the board of the Harpa International Music Academy in Reykjavík and is Artistic Director of the Reykholt Chamber Music festival in Iceland.
